IT Asset Disposal (ITAD)
Decommissioned hard drives and SSDs almost always retain recoverable data. Brocent's managed ITAD service ensures every device is processed through certified data destruction (NIST 800-88, DoD 5220.22-M, Blancco), chain-of-custody collection, and zero-landfill e-waste recycling — with per-device certificates and a compliance-ready disposal report.

Why It Matters
Retired IT equipment is a hidden liability
Retired assets found in landfill, computers donated to charity discovered on roadsides, or material you believed was destroyed being resold online — all leave your organisation exposed to litigation, regulatory fines, and reputational damage.
Even companies without heavy industry regulations must properly dispose of employee records. Without professional ITAD, you end up with overcrowded IT closets, growing compliance risk, and disposal costs that exceed any residual device value.
Legal & Regulatory Risk
GDPR, HIPAA, PDPC, and 26+ other regulations require provable data destruction — a missing certificate is a compliance gap.
Data Recovery Risk
Standard deletion does not erase data. Professional tools can recover files from improperly retired HDDs and SSDs.
Environmental Liability
Improper e-waste disposal violates local environmental laws in HK, China, Japan, and Singapore.
Overcrowded IT Closets
Unprocessed end-of-life equipment creates storage costs, fire hazards, and audit liabilities.
Service Scenarios
Five ITAD Deployment Scenarios
From routine hardware refresh to full data centre decommission and office closure — Brocent's ITAD service adapts to your situation. All scenarios support both onsite and offsite processing.
Onsite Processing
Engineers and tools are brought to the client's premises. Higher cost due to dedicated travel and transport, but data never leaves the site. Required for highly classified environments.
Offsite Processing
Devices are collected with chain-of-custody seals and transported to Brocent's processing facility. Travel charges are eliminated and resources can be allocated efficiently — the preferred option for most projects.
Corporate IT Refresh
Replacing end-of-life computers, servers, and network devices across offices. All replaced devices are sanitised before physical disposal — preventing data leakage from retired assets.
Onsite or OffsiteData Centre Decommission
Client terminates a data centre service and needs to decommission all hosted IT devices and restore DC conditions — racks cleared, cabling removed, all data destroyed to standard.
Onsite or OffsiteDC Decommission & Ship Back
After DC decommission, all devices are data-wiped and shipped back to the client's designated location — with destruction certificates before shipment.
Onsite or OffsiteOffice & IT Closure
Full office closure — all IT devices are data-wiped and completely disposed of, with a final asset inventory report and individual certificates issued to the client.
Onsite or OffsiteDecommission & Relocation
Devices are decommissioned at one site, data-wiped, and relocated to a new office or warehouse — combining ITAD with an IT relocation project.
Onsite or OffsiteDestruction Methods
Data Destruction Technologies
Brocent selects the appropriate destruction method based on the device type, media classification, and client compliance requirements. Multiple methods can be combined — for example, Blancco wipe followed by physical drill for maximum assurance.
HDD Physical Drill
Electric drill applied three times to the HDD platter — rendering data physically unrecoverable. Fast on-site execution, ideal when software wiping is not feasible.

Tamper-Proof Certificate of Erasure
Every Blancco erasure produces a digitally signed Certificate of Erasure that cannot be modified after creation. The certificate includes device serial number, erasure standard applied, date/time, and a cryptographic hash — creating an immutable audit record suitable for ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and regulatory compliance reviews. All certificates are centralised and searchable via the Blancco Management Portal.
Patented SSD Erasure Technology
Standard overwrite methods fail on SSDs due to wear levelling and over-provisioned storage. Blancco's patented method combines multiple techniques to ensure complete erasure of all flash cells — including hidden and remapped sectors that other tools miss.
Process
10-Step Disposal Process
Every Brocent ITAD engagement follows a documented end-to-end process — from onsite asset tagging to issuing the final Certificate of Disposal. No device is unaccounted for at any stage.
Onsite Asset Inventory
Brocent engineers arrive on-site and conduct a full asset inventory — every device is tagged, photographed, and logged against the client's asset register before any equipment is moved.
Un-rack & Pack
Devices are carefully de-racked or collected from desks, packed with bubble film to prevent physical damage, and placed in secure sealed bins with padlocks.
Secured Transport
A dedicated van or cargo vehicle transports sealed bins to the processing facility. Chain-of-custody documentation is maintained throughout transit — no device is unaccounted for.
Offsite Warehouse Intake
Assets are received and stock-checked at the processing warehouse. Blancco licences and USB boot tools are prepared and assigned per batch.
Lab Setup & Data Wipe
A local processing lab environment is set up with network access. Blancco data wipe is executed device by device — each wipe generates a tamper-proof erasure report with serial number, method, and timestamp.
Photo & Video Evidence
Photos and short videos are taken of each device during and after destruction as supplementary evidence — particularly for HDDs and SSDs that are physically destroyed alongside or after wiping.
Network Device Reset
For routers, switches, and firewalls, a console cable is used to perform a professional factory reset — removing all configuration data, VLAN tables, and access credentials.
Report Review & QA
The Blancco erasure report is reviewed to confirm no devices are missing or failed. Any gaps are escalated and resolved before the batch is cleared.
Pack for Shipment / Disposal
All processed devices are re-packed to shipping standards. Arrangements are made with the certified e-waste recycler or the client's designated delivery address.
Certificate of Disposal Issued
A final Certificate of Disposal is issued listing every asset: serial number, asset tag, device type, destruction method, destruction date, and individual certificate reference — suitable for ISO 27001 audits and regulatory compliance.

Residual Value & Buyback
Brocent does not directly purchase back retired devices. However, for assets that retain market value, Brocent can consult and connect clients with local certified recycling companies to obtain buyback pricing — potentially offsetting a portion of your disposal cost while ensuring devices are reused responsibly rather than shredded.
