Five Standardised Deployment Scenarios
Whether you're integrating, deploying fresh, or fully replacing your PBX — Brocent has a standardised solution for each scenario.
Integrate existing PBX with Teams
Retain your current PBX and phone numbers. Using a certified SBC, Brocent bridges your existing PBX and SIP trunks into Microsoft Teams Phone — enabling extension dialling, PSTN inbound/outbound, without replacing your telecom infrastructure.
Deploy Teams Phone from scratch
No existing PBX? Build enterprise telephony directly on Teams — cloud Auto Attendant, Call Queues, voicemail, and DID number assignment. Fully cloud-managed with no on-premise hardware required.
Replace legacy PBX with Teams
Migrate from a traditional PABX to Microsoft Teams Phone System. Retain existing number ranges and SIP trunks. Eliminate costly PBX hardware maintenance and unify all voice and video on one platform.
Extend Teams to meeting rooms
Deploy certified Teams Rooms hardware across all room sizes — from Focus Rooms to Boardrooms. Brocent supplies, installs, and configures Logitech, Poly, Yealink, and Crestron devices.
Enhanced call centre features
Integrate third-party contact centre applications with Teams Phone for advanced IVR, agent scheduling, call recording, CRM integration, and real-time reporting — suitable for customer service and sales teams.
Feature Set
Teams Phone Core Features
Microsoft Teams Phone System covers all core enterprise PBX features — operated as Pay-as-You-Go, significantly reducing traditional PBX maintenance costs.
Cloud Auto Attendant
Multi-level IVR menu system enabling callers to self-route to departments or users — with multi-language prompts and holiday routing.
Cloud Call Queues
Configure call queue management: hold music, agent assignment rules, overflow handling — ensuring every caller is handled appropriately.
Direct Routing
Connect local SIP trunks to Microsoft Teams Phone System via a certified SBC — users make and receive PSTN calls directly within Teams.
Call Forwarding & Simultaneous Ring
Simultaneous ring, follow-me forwarding, conditional forwarding, and group call pickup — calls follow users whether they're at their desk or on the move.
Cloud Voicemail
Voicemail delivered to Exchange mailbox as email with audio attachment — with custom greetings, holiday settings, and transcription.
Call Park & Retrieve
Park a call in the Teams cloud; any authorised device or colleague can retrieve it using the park code — ideal for reception and shared workspace scenarios.
Federated Calling
Secure voice and video calls with users in federated tenants — cross-company collaboration without additional configuration.
Presence-Based Routing
Route inbound calls intelligently based on user presence status (busy, do not disturb, away) — reducing missed calls and unwanted interruptions.
Integrated Dial Pad
Dial by name or number from the search bar or dial pad; internal calls display photo ID and job title instead of just a number.
Media Bypass
ICE protocol keeps media flowing directly between the Teams client and SBC — reducing latency and improving call quality, especially critical for China cross-border calls.
Microsoft 365 E5
Teams Phone included — no additional licence required
Teams Phone Standard Add-on
Separately subscribable — compatible with other M365 plans
Azure / GCP / AWS Cloud SBC
Virtual SBC deployment on public cloud — no hardware required
Architecture
SBC Direct Routing & Architecture
A Session Border Controller (SBC) is the key device that connects local SIP trunks to Microsoft Teams Phone System. Brocent uses Microsoft-certified SBC brands supporting both on-premise and cloud deployment.
AudioCodes
Supports both on-premise and cloud (Azure/GCP/AWS) deployment — Brocent's primary SBC brand. The M800C-ESBC/R suits medium-to-large enterprises; supports media bypass and direct local SIP trunk connectivity.
Ribbon
Also supports on-premise and cloud SBC deployment — suitable for large enterprises with high availability and redundancy requirements in Direct Routing scenarios.
On-Premise SBC
SBC hardware installed in the client's data centre, connecting directly to local telecom SIP trunks. Best call quality with no cloud round-trip — ideal for China mainland local calling.
Cloud SBC (Azure / GCP / AWS)
Virtual SBC instance deployed on public cloud — no on-premise hardware required. Fast to deploy, elastic scaling. Suited for serviced offices or sites without a data centre.
Split-Tunnel VPN Optimisation
Microsoft recommends bypassing VPN for Teams real-time media traffic. Split tunnelling routes Teams calls directly to Microsoft 365 — significantly reducing latency for China-based users.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
For technical questions not covered here, speak directly with a Brocent engineer.
Ask us a question →Can we deploy the SBC on a public cloud?
Yes. Brocent supports virtual SBC deployment on Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and AWS — no on-premise hardware required. Ideal for serviced offices or sites without a server room.
Can each user have their own DID number?
Yes. Via Direct Routing or Operator Connect, each Teams user can be assigned an individual DID (Direct Inward Dialling) number — retaining existing number ranges or porting new ones.
Will call quality be impacted if M365 is in Hong Kong and the SBC is in mainland China?
Brocent uses Microsoft-certified SBCs with the Media Bypass feature enabled. Local calls flow point-to-point between the Teams client and SBC without routing through Teams servers, significantly reducing latency. Multi-party international conference calls may require additional tuning.
Do Taiwan and mainland China each need their own SBC?
Yes — separate local SBCs are recommended for each country/region to keep local calls in-country, reduce cross-border latency, and comply with local regulatory requirements.
What licences are required for Teams Phone?
Teams Phone is included in Microsoft 365 E5. It can also be purchased as a Teams Phone Standard add-on for other M365 plans. Cloud SBC deployment additionally requires Azure/GCP/AWS virtual machine costs.
Can you support both Teams Rooms and Google Meet rooms in the same organisation?
Yes. Brocent supports mixed-platform deployments — Teams Rooms in some rooms, Google Meet in others — based on departmental or user preferences. Both platforms can be managed centrally.
