Why certificate renewal is being automated industry-wide
The CA/Browser Forum's Ballot SC-081v3 (passed April 2025) puts public TLS certificates on a fixed schedule of shrinking maximum validity periods — the same schedule applies to every CA, including all three featured here.

Code signing certificates follow a separate rule (Ballot CSC-31): anything issued or renewed on or after March 1, 2026 is capped at 460 days maximum validity.
A 398-day certificate could once be "set and forget" for over a year. At 47 days, manual renewal isn't realistic — this is exactly why every vendor on this page ships with free ACME automation configured at setup, and why Brocent manages renewal as a standing part of the service rather than a one-time deployment task.
