How to Connect Confluence to Claude (and Write the Weekly Project Status From It)
Connect Confluence to Claude through Atlassian's remote server, scope it to one space and turn a week of notes into the Friday status update. Six steps and a prompt.
The short answer: Use Atlassian's official remote server connected through Claude's connectors: your Atlassian administrator may need to allow it, you sign in with your Atlassian account, and Claude reads only what you can already open. It works for Atlassian Cloud, not Server or Data Center. Pointing it at one project space is enough to turn a week of meeting notes, decisions and risks into Friday's status update.
Connector names, menu paths and plan limits change; check Atlassian's and Anthropic's current documentation for plan and version details (checked October 2026).
If you run projects or operations, Friday afternoon usually looks the same: open the project space, scroll through a week of meeting notes, find the decisions, work out what is blocked, and type it all into an update. Claude can do the reading and the first draft. What it needs is access to the pages, and that is the part people get stuck on. This guide shows the three ways to give Claude a Confluence space, the six steps to connect it, a prompt for the weekly status, and the permission checks that should come first.
Three Ways to Get Confluence Into Claude
Connector vs Export vs Copy-Paste
- Atlassian's remote server through a Claude connector — Setup: your Atlassian organisation admin must allow it, and on Claude Team or Enterprise plans a Claude organisation Owner adds the connector before members connect with their own account. Permissions: it follows your existing Confluence access. Freshness: live, so Claude sees the page as it is now. Limits: Atlassian Cloud only, and Atlassian applies usage limits; check its Rovo usage page.
- Export pages to PDF or Word and upload them — Setup: none, anyone can do it. Permissions: whatever you can export. Freshness: a snapshot, stale the moment you export. Good for: a one-off, or when the connector is not approved yet.
- Copy and paste — Setup: none. Permissions: only what you paste. Freshness: a snapshot. Good for: a single meeting-notes page. Limit: it falls apart past a few pages.
Most teams end up on the connector because the weekly status is a repeat job, and repeat jobs should not start with downloading files. For the broader question of how Claude reads team discussions and proposes documentation changes, see our guide on Claude and Confluence documentation sync.
Step by Step: Connect Confluence and Write the Weekly Status
- Step 1 — Check the prerequisites. You need Confluence Cloud (not Server or Data Center) and a Claude plan that supports connectors. Plan limits change, so check our AI tools pricing page and Anthropic's current plan documentation before you buy seats for this.
- Step 2 — Ask your Atlassian admin to allow it. An organisation admin can control which AI tools may connect to your Atlassian organisation. Do not work around this with a personal API token; ask for approval and say which space you want to use.
- Step 3 — Add the connector in Claude. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and add Atlassian (the Atlassian Rovo connector) from the directory. On Team and Enterprise, a Claude Owner adds it for the organisation first, and then each member connects their own account.
- Step 4 — Sign in and approve. You sign in with your Atlassian account and approve the access. From then on Claude can see what your account can see in Confluence and Jira, and nothing more.
- Step 5 — Scope the request to one space. Name the space and the time window in your prompt. A narrow request is faster, cheaper and easier to check than "summarise Confluence".
- Step 6 — Run the status prompt and check it. Use the prompt below, open two or three of the linked pages, and fix anything wrong before you send it.
A prompt for step 6:
"Using only the pages in the Confluence space [SPACE NAME] that changed in the last 7 days, write this week's project status in four sections: Done, Next week, Blocked, and Decisions needed. For every line, add the link to the page it came from. If a page does not say who owns an item or when it is due, write [CHECK] instead of guessing. Keep it under 250 words."
Each line carries a link back to its page, so a reviewer can verify any claim in seconds. The [CHECK] marker is there because meeting notes often record a task without an owner or a date, and Claude should not invent either.
Claude Sees What You See, So Fix Space Permissions First
The connector acts with your own permissions, which is the right design, but it means a Confluence space that is open to everyone is open to Claude too. Before a team uses it:
- Review the space. Who can view it? Remove "anyone in the company" access from spaces with HR, legal or customer-sensitive content.
- Keep the project space separate. A dedicated project space is easier to scope than a wiki where project notes sit beside everything else.
- Decide who may use the connector. Start with the project managers, not the whole company.
- Keep Claude's changes reviewed. The Atlassian connector includes tools to create and update Confluence pages, subject to your Atlassian admin's settings and your own permissions, so have it produce a draft that a person reviews rather than publishing straight to the space.
If you do not have an in-house admin for this, our AI support service can set up the connector, scope the pilot and write the rules, and our IT support service covers the account and permission clean-up that comes first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official Confluence connector for Claude?
Yes. Atlassian provides a remote server for Atlassian Cloud that you add to Claude as a connector, and an Atlassian admin has to allow it. The names and steps change, so follow the current instructions from Atlassian and Anthropic.
Can Claude edit Confluence pages?
Reading and summarising are the main use. The Atlassian connector includes tools to create and update Confluence pages, subject to your Atlassian admin's settings and your own permissions. Treat edits as drafts that a named person approves.
Does it work with Confluence Data Center?
As of writing, Atlassian's remote server is for Atlassian Cloud only, so Server and Data Center sites are not supported. For those, exporting pages is the fallback.
Which Claude plan do I need?
Connectors are available on Claude's individual plans as well as Team and Enterprise; on Team and Enterprise an organisation Owner must add the connector first. Check Anthropic's current documentation and our AI tools pricing page before you choose.
Can it read Jira as well?
Atlassian's server covers Jira as well as Confluence, so a status update can pull open tickets alongside the notes. Use the same scoping: one project, one time window.
Where to Start
Pick one project space, one project manager and one rule: Claude drafts, a person sends. Run the six steps for two weeks and count the minutes the status update used to take. If you want help with the Atlassian approval, the connector or the space permissions, talk to Brocent.
